Aquatic exercise can be very beneficial for a wide variety of patients: seniors, athletes need recovery of injuries, and pregnant women are only a few groups that can benefit from aquatic exercise. The few professionals know what to look for when they refer their patients to an aquatic exercise program, however. Most usually tell patients to "join an aerobics classified" and remain there without really knowing what the patient may be getting into. Some of the things that health professionals should consider when referring their patients for aquatic exercise.

How to refer a patient for aquatic exercise

¨ observe courses in your area.

¨ know the temperature of the pool. (86A ° or higher for arthritis, 79-82nd sessions for the swimming trip)

¨ Know the needs of accessibility and cabinets of the pool

¨ The refund check third party payer.

¨ Think of your patient. Would you like someone 70 years for a class to a health club dresses mirror, or a YMCA? Can a 20-year-athletes of age must be in a class of the Foundation Level of arthritis?

Safety Issues

 ¨ is a lifeguard present?

¨ how the patient feels comfortable in the water?

¨ Is there any food available in the region for diabetics if necessary?

¨ Is there a first aid kit?

 ¨ no advice?

 ¨ Is there a phone?

¨ Is there a defibrillator on site?

¨ A lifeguard instructor and are aware of the particular problem of his patient?
Aquatic exercise design

¨ water affects all types of Body / Design / fat distribution differently. For example, men have more difficulty in deeper water that women are due to broad shoulders and narrow hips. Pera patients have more difficulty keeping their legs to float because of their fat distribution, so that they need to exercise control over the abdomen.

¨ The exercise by the very work different muscles, depending on water depth.

¨ Changing the speed of change of the year the amount of friction, which changes the resistance.

¨ proprioception currents change, the stability and level of control.

¨ water in the neck has a weight of 90% of body's, of water in the middle of the torso support 75% of the weight of the Corpus, and water at waist level covers 50% of the body's weight. How deep the patient should be depends on your individual needs.

¨ use in most aquatic exercise is common to the abdominals to hold the position without sit-ups/crunches.

¨ emphasis on posture and body position to maximize the benefits of aquatic exercise.

¨ Prime easy to avoid disappointment.

Intensity aquatic exercise
¨ The intensity should not be based on heart rate. The heart rate are valid as its correlation with consumption oxygen. The heart rate will be lower in the water because water dissipates heat more efficiently than air, so does the heart beat faster to cool the body down facilitates venous return and gravity effects of hydrostatic blood volume change from the extremities to the thorax. In water, the frequency decreased heart rate averages 13 beats per minute or 17% of the land.

¨ intensity must also take into account the effects of drugs or diseases specific.

¨ To increase heart rate, the use of levers shorter, less elevation movements.

¨ with the weapons increases the heart rate up, but stroke volume, so that the flow of Cardiac may not be sufficient to achieve cardiovascular fitness.

¨ You can not use sweat to correlate with exercise intensity. You may sweat in the water without knowing it.

¨ New athletes are Teach the difference between the bread to the "bad" and a "Paina good (practice).

Aquatic Exercise and Pregnancy
¨ Advantages of aquatic exercise during pregnancy:

 ¨ lessen the impact.

 ¨ attraction reduction gravitational.

¨ cooling effect of water prevents overheating.

¨ An increase in heart rate is less than in the exercise of land.

¨ hydrostatic pressure pushes the excess fluid in the blood circulation, reduces swelling.

¨ less than an uncomfortable heavy feeling in the water.

¨ feel they can move with more grace.

 ¨ safer.

¨ The stress just to maintain its current level of fitness rather than trying to improve it.

¨ Pregnancy May be the first time that fitness estimates, may need more feedback from the instructor.

¨ the special needs of pregnant patients in aquatic exercise:

 ¨ more heating and cooling

¨ intensity changes time and long gradual transition

A simple choreography ¨

A warning against stretching ¨

¨ good opportunity to increase awareness of good nutrition and hydration

¨ Pregnant women can safely supine abdominal exercises in the water because there is no pressure on the vena cava as it would on earth. (Must diastase check, however.)

¨ intensity should reflect how they feel today, not how  "usually" exercise.

¨ If a pregnant woman is in a mixed class, not only to come out. Talk about care before or after class.

Training strength in water
¨ Of all the systems the agency, the neuromusculoskeletal system can demonstrate the incredible difference between the person and fully visible determined person who trains conscientiously.

¨ A 1990 study of 86-96 years Olds in residential long term care with only 8 weeks of training Aquatic force their knee extensors was an increase in the average size of 180%. Some study subjects are even capable of stopping the use of batons.

¨ aquatic strength training does not increase the number of muscle fibers, but their size increases, the number of fibers activated, the number of capillaries in muscle fibers, and the efficiency of mitochondria in muscles.
